Construction update December 2024

Update / Teade # 232

November marked turn to indoor work on KESKUS site

The heritage house basement floor was poured, interior walls in the basement area built, and the natural gas connection completed in time for winter heat required for indoor work. This heat will be considerably more cost effective (and less disruptive to neighbours from a noise perspective) than diesel fuel which is what had to be used last winter. /// Valatud sai muinsuskaitsealuse maja keldripõrand, keldriala siseseinte kiviblokid laetud ning talveks vajalik soojussüsteemid paigaldatud. Alaline lahendus soojuseks on tunduvalt kulutõhusam (ja müra seisukohalt naabreid vähem häiriv) kui diislikütus, mida tuli eelmisel talvel kasutada.

Pictured below, the 3 stages of 11 Madison Avenue basement being excavated and underpinned, walls 'poured' with shotcrete and third photo from November, with floor poured. /// 11 Madison Avenue keldripõranda väljakaevamine, seinad valatakse kivibetooniga ja kolmas foto novembrist, valatud põrand valmis:

No longer critical path, but negotiations with the TTC regarding eastern portion of tunnel remediation are nearing the end and work will be performed under the main ground floor slab of KESKUS, which area can be seen in the video. This represents a positive change to the order of operations of the work on the main project schedule so that it will no longer impact the overall duration of construction.

Interior demolition within the 11 Madison Ave heritage house exposed areas requiring interior structural improvement and masonry work for restoration. /// Madison Ave 11 muinsuskaitsealuse maja interjööri lammutamine, tõi ilmsile stuktuurseid parandamsvajadusi müüritööde restaureerimist.

Outdoors, paint will be removed from the north elevation and masons will then repoint the brick. Exterior restoration of the brick and stone is also next up and the specific matching brick is now agreed upon with Heritage. The natural stone foundation walls of the house will be restored, calling for masons specializing in laying stone. /// Õues eemaldatakse põhjapoolse majaseinalt värv ja müürsepad parandavad tellistevahelist mörti. Järgneb tellise ja kivi välisrestaureerimine ning konkreetne sobiv tellis on nüüd Muinsuskaitseametiga kokku lepitud. Maja looduskivist alusmüürid taastatakse, selleks on vaja kiviladumisele spetsialiseerunud müürseppasid.

Structural steel is slated to start arriving on site in the new year.  ///. Konstruktsiooniteras hakkab objektile kohale jõudma uue aasta algul.

Sincere thanks goes to the Government of Canada through FedDev Ontario for its support of courtyard construction, read more about this generous support here. /// Siiras tänu Kanada valitsusele FedDev Ontario kaudu praeguste ehitustööde toetamise eest.
